Heritage Festival Revives Traditional Plowing in Al-Baha

Al-Baha, August 05, 2025, SPA -- The eighth edition of the Alatawelah heritage festival in Al-Baha is drawing large crowds with its revival of traditional oxen-powered plowing, offering visitors a glimpse into the past.
The festival, held nightly for 10 days, showcases the tools and techniques once used by farmers who relied entirely on animals to cultivate their land.
Farmer Mutab Al-Omari told the Saudi Press Agency that Al-Baha's farmers in the past used wooden plows to quickly aerate their fields during specific seasons, a practice essential for preserving soil quality and preparing for the next agricultural season.
Traditional plowing demonstrations at the festival are a major draw for residents and visitors alike, helping to preserve the region's agricultural identity.
Al-Baha Region is known as one of the Kingdom's richest agricultural areas. Its moderate climate, mountainous terrain, and fertile soil support a wide variety of crops and have seen significant improvements in quality and yield with the introduction of modern technologies.
