SDRPY Transforms Healthcare in Marib with First MRI System and Advanced Diagnostic Facilities

Marib, July 22, 2025, SPA -- The Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen (SDRPY) has launched a transformative medical project at the Marib General Hospital Authority, marking a major step forward in patient care and diagnostic services in Marib Governorate and neighboring regions.
The project includes the establishment and full equipping of the hospital's Radiology and MRI Department with the latest medical technologies—most notably, the installation of the first MRI machine in Marib and only the third of its kind in Yemen.
Beyond simply supplying equipment, the initiative involved comprehensive site preparation. This included construction and electrical works, installation of air conditioning systems, creation of isolation rooms for the MRI unit, patient and companion waiting areas, and dedicated rooms for patient preparation. Additionally, technical staff received training to operate the MRI system effectively and ensure high-quality diagnostic services.
The project has already had a significant impact, improving the accuracy and speed of diagnoses while reducing the need to transfer patients to hospitals in other cities for advanced imaging.
Director of the Marib General Hospital Authority Dr. Abdul Karim Hamid emphasized the vital importance of the new Radiology Department. He noted that radiological diagnostics are essential for identifying diseases and assessing the severity of injuries, particularly in emergency cases involving brain trauma and head injuries.
The hospital currently serves 57,941 direct and indirect beneficiaries, underlining the far-reaching impact of this initiative on the lives of thousands of patients.
This project is part of the broader efforts by SDRPY, which has implemented 265 development projects and initiatives across eight key sectors: health, education, energy, transportation, water, agriculture and fisheries, institutional capacity building for the Yemeni government, and comprehensive development programs in numerous Yemeni governorates.
