Lee's special envoy visits India, meets PM Modi

SEOUL, July 18 (Yonhap) -- President Lee Jae Myung's special envoy to India visited the country and met with its Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the foreign ministry said Friday.

A team of special envoys led by former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum visited New Delhi and paid a courtesy call on Modi on Thursday.

They delivered to Modi a letter from Lee expressing his wish to strengthen bilateral relations, while noting Lee's firm commitment to developing the special strategic partnership between the two countries, which marks the 10th anniversary of its establishment this year.

Modi thanked the delegation for the letter and expressed his hope that Lee will visit India, adding he was deeply impressed by his meeting with him on the sidelines of the Group of Seven summit in June.

The prime minister also hoped for cooperation with South Korea in shipbuilding, a sector where South Korea is a global leader, saying he will do his best to remove the difficulties South Korean companies in India face.
