Bahrain announces support for Adel Darwish’s candidacy for ITU Deputy Secretary General

Manama, July 9 (BNA): Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, announced the Kingdom of Bahrain’s support for Adel Darwish’s candidacy for the post of Deputy Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The minister said that the nomination reflects Bahrain’s commitment to strengthening its presence in international forums and supporting national competencies for leadership roles in global organisations. He emphasised Bahrain’s confidence in its national expertise and their ability to contribute to global digital transformation and to the ITU’s strategic direction, ensuring its continued mission to connect the world through secure, sustainable, and inclusive technologies.
Adel Darwish has an extensive professional background in digital policy and telecommunications regulation, including his current role as Director of the ITU’s Regional Office for the Arab States. His candidacy is supported by the Gulf Cooperation Council and other Arab countries. He aims to help the ITU adapt to digital era developments and promote inclusive, sustainable digital economies through strengthened international cooperation.
