HM King delivers speech on UN 80th anniversary

Manama, June 16 (BNA): His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa delivered a speech as the international community marks the 80th anniversary of the founding of the United Nations.
His Majesty the King began by expressing pride on this historic occasion, pausing to reflect on the remarkable journey of the UN. His Majesty noted that since its foundation, the UN has embodied the living conscience of the world, striving from its earliest days to serve as a pillar of constructive international cooperation, a model for the promotion of peace, security, and development, and a defender of human rights everywhere.
HM the King highlighted that the Kingdom of Bahrain takes immense pride in its membership of this prestigious international body. His Majesty reiterated Bahrain’s commitment to deepening its historic cooperation with the UN to advance shared humanitarian and development objectives, and to enhancing strategic partnerships to confront global challenges and channel their outcomes in service of humanity.
HM the King underlined Bahrain’s steadfast commitment to continued cooperation with the UN, sharing its experience in reform and developmental modernisation, developing international humanitarian work, supporting the advancement of women and youth, embracing educational innovation and digital transformation, and consolidating a culture of tolerance and the values of coexistence through the programmes of the King Hamad Global Centre for Coexistence and Tolerance.
HM the King noted that this commemoration coincides with Bahrain’s election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for the next two years, for the second time in its history. His Majesty said that this milestone reflects the confidence of the international community in Bahrain’s efforts and its balanced diplomatic approach, which is always directed towards the promotion of global peace and harmony, in line with the principles and norms upon which the UN stands.
HM the King emphasised Bahrain’s unwavering support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people to live in peace, freedom, and dignity. His Majesty expressed the Kingdom’s backing for efforts to secure a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages and detainees, the acceleration of urgent humanitarian assistance to its people, and the reconstruction of Gaza. His Majesty also looked forward to the implementation of the Bahrain Summit’s call to hold an international conference for a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
HM the King extended heartfelt congratulations to the United Nations on its 80th anniversary, wishing it continued success in the years ahead, grounded in noble human values that contribute to building a future distinguished by justice, equality, and prosperity for all peoples of the world.
