Municipalities Affairs Minister, PMO Director General meet UNESCO director general

Nice, June 10 (BNA): Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and Hamad Yaqoob Al Mahmeed, Director General of the Prime Minister’s Office, met with Audrey Azoulay, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The meeting took place on the sidelines of the third United Nations Ocean Conference 2025, held in Nice, France, from June 9 to 13.


 

Essam Abdulaziz Al Jassim, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to France, was present.


 

The minister commended the cooperation between the Kingdom of Bahrain and UNESCO and highlighted Bahrain’s commitment to supporting efforts contributing to the achievement of the sustainable development goals. This commitment is pursued through various initiatives and strategic plans aimed at enhancing development across multiple sectors.


 

He emphasised the importance of strengthening international efforts to address environmental challenges, particularly climate change and the protection of natural resources, including seas and oceans.


 

The minister lauded UNESCO’s work through its Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, which supports the international community in developing knowledge and sharing expertise to protect oceans and ensure their sustainability.


 

He also underlined the significance of the third United Nations Ocean Conference in advancing global efforts to safeguard marine ecosystems and ensure their sustainability for future generations.
