Iranian diplomats taken hostage by US in Iraq return home

Five Iranian diplomats taken hostage by US in Iraq, for almost two years, came back home on Sunday.

They were welcomed by Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki at Mehrabad Airport.

The Iranian diplomats were taken hostage by the US when the American troops raided Iran’s consulate in the northern city of Erbil, Iraq, in January 2007.

They were freed last Thursday thanks to efforts made by the Iranian Foreign Ministry and cooperation of the Iraqi government.

The diplomats are: Baqer Ghabishavi, Mahmoud Farhadi, Majid Qaemi, Majid Daghari and Abbas Hatami-Kasavand.
