Foreign Minister participates in Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit ministerial committee press conference

Amman, June 2 (BNA): Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, Minister of Foreign Affairs, participated in a press conference held by the ministerial committee assigned by the Joint Arab Islamic Extraordinary Summit on Developments in the Gaza Strip.

His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Saudi Arabia; Ayman Safadi, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan; Dr Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration, and Egyptian Expatriates; and Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the Arab League, were present.

Dr. Al Zayani highlighted the importance of the Bahrain Declaration, issued at the 33rd Arab Summit chaired by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa. He emphasised that the declaration was not merely a statement, but a unified and collective Arab position endorsed by all leaders of the Arab world.

Dr. Al Zayani noted that the declaration laid out a diplomatic action plan to address the urgent challenges in the Gaza Strip, including the immediate need to end the conflict, the swift release of all hostages and detainees, the acceleration of humanitarian aid delivery, the rejection of forced displacement, and the commencement of Gaza’s reconstruction.

Dr. Al Zayani also highlighted that the Palestine Summit held in Cairo, co-chaired by His Majesty the King and His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El Sisi of Egypt, adopted a comprehensive plan for Gaza’s reconstruction. Additionally, the Bahrain Summit underscored that the Palestine Liberation Organisation remains the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people and called for the deployment of an international peacekeeping force in the Gaza Strip under the auspices of the United Nations or willing countries.

Dr. Al Zayani expressed appreciation to Saudi Arabia and France for their joint initiative to convene an international peace conference in New York this month. He noted that the Arab leaders at the Bahrain Summit instructed foreign ministers to intensify diplomatic efforts aimed at increasing the number of countries recognising the State of Palestine and securing full UN membership. He also commended the establishment of an international coalition to implement the two-state solution, initiated by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Norway, and the European Union.

Dr Al Zayani noted that Donald Trump, the Honourable President of the United States, had expressed support for achieving peace in the region, describing this as an important development that brings a reliable partner to global humanitarian efforts for peace.

Dr. Al Zayani concluded by underscoring that the Kingdom of Bahrain, under the leadership of His Majesty the King, will continue during its upcoming tenure on the UN Security Council to support efforts for the recognition of the State of Palestine and its full membership in the United Nations.
