The President Receives His Lebanese Counterpart And Affirms Iraq's Support For Lebanon's Security, Stability, And Territorial Integrity

Baghdad/NINA/-President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid affirmed Iraq's supportive stance towards Lebanon's security, stability, and territorial integrity.

A presidential statement stated that “the President of the Republic received Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and his accompanying delegation at the Baghdad Palace on Sunday.”

According to the statement, the President of the Republic held a bilateral meeting with his Lebanese counterpart, during which he welcomed the guest president, stressing the strength of bilateral relations between Iraq and Lebanon and the keenness to develop and grow them, as well as the importance of enhancing cooperation and trade exchange in various fields.

According to the statement, the two sides reviewed the situation in Lebanon and the region, emphasizing the need to exert further international efforts to ease tensions and engage in calm and constructive dialogue to achieve peace and stability regionally and internationally. The situation in Palestine and Gaza was also discussed, with the two presidents affirming the importance of continuing to support the Palestinian people in achieving their legitimate rights and establishing their independent state. The two presidents reiterated their support for Syria's unity and stability, and for preserving its sovereignty and security.

An expanded meeting was then held between the two sides, attended by a number of Iraqi and Lebanese officials. The President affirmed Iraq's firm position toward Lebanon, which is based on supporting everything that preserves its security, stability, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, and that serves the interests of its people.

The President of the Republic indicated that Iraq, based on the decisions of the Baghdad Summit, is exerting its utmost efforts, in coordination with its brothers and friends, to support the brotherly Lebanese people and contribute to achieving the aspirations and hopes of the Lebanese people, with all their components.

For his part, President Aoun expressed his thanks and gratitude for Iraq's supportive stances toward Lebanon in various fields, and its role in uniting and building bridges of cooperation between the countries of the region. He affirmed his country's keenness to strengthen relations between the two countries and consolidate bilateral cooperation in a manner that serves common interests. He reviewed the situation in Lebanon, emphasizing that the Lebanese state is pursuing a clear policy committed to reform in various fields and based on respect for Lebanon's sovereignty and stability./ End
