Ongjin Reed Positively Used in DPRK

 Pyongyang, May 30 (KCNA) -- South Hwanghae Province in the DPRK is striving to use Ongjin reed as raw material for regional industry.
In line with the reality in which modern regional-industry factories are being built one after another, the province has paid attention to the study and cultivation of the Ongjin reed with great economic effectiveness.
Usefulness of the Ongjin reed is growing along with the development of science and technology as it is used in making various building parts, glucose, yeast, biopesticide, fertilizer and other raw materials for production and its root has a great medical value.
The province has intensified the work to make industrial establishments at all levels introduce the Ongjin reed with the high growth speed and great resistance to flood and draught into their production activities.
Officials are disseminating and generalizing rational cultivation and use methods.
Officials, scientists and technicians in the province are directing efforts to solving technical problems arising in securing high-yielding seeds and increasing the per-hectare yield. -0-
