Sultan of Brunei, Cambodian PM Arrive in Malaysia for 46th ASEAN Summit

SUBANG/SEPANG (Malaysia) May 25 (Bernama) – The Sultan of Brunei, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet arrived in Malaysia today to attend the 46th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits, scheduled to take place from May 26 to 27 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah's special aircraft landed at the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) Base in Subang at 4.30 pm and was received by Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Sultan then inspected a guard of honour mounted by two officers and 26 personnel of the First Battalion of the Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial), led by Captain Muhammad Syafiq Najmi Mazlan.

Shortly after, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet arrived at the Bunga Raya Complex of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 4.36 pm. He was accompanied by his wife, Pich Chanmony, and a delegation of senior officials.

Hun Manet was welcomed by Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. He also inspected a guard of honour mounted by 28 officers and personnel from the First Battalion Royal Ranger Regiment (Ceremonial), led by Capt J Lingesri Rao.

His Majesty’s presence at the summit reflects Brunei’s strong commitment to regional cooperation, while Hun Manet's participation marks his continued engagement with ASEAN since assuming office in 2023.

During the 44th ASEAN Summit in Vientiane, Laos, in October 2024, Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah had emphasised the importance of addressing climate change and strengthening regional solidarity.

This year, Malaysia assumes the ASEAN Chairmanship under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability”, reflecting its commitment to fostering a united, resilient and forward-looking ASEAN community. It is Malaysia’s fifth time holding the chairmanship, following previous terms in 1977, 1997, 2005 and 2015.

The 46th ASEAN Summit will also feature two key high-level meetings – the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the inaugural ASEAN-GCC-China Summit.
