Bahrain emphasises commitment to governance, institutional development at PUIC conference

Jakarta, May 14 (BNA): The Parliamentary Division of the Kingdom of Bahrain is participating in the 19th session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC) and its related meetings, held in Jakarta under the patronage of His Excellency Prabowo Subianto, President of the Republic of Indonesia.
The conference, held under the theme "Good Governance and Strong Institutions", was inaugurated today with the participation of parliamentary leaders and representatives from Arab and Islamic countries. The Bahraini delegation is led by Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chair of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division.
In his address, Al Musallam affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain, based on the high directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and within the framework of a modern partnership between state institutions, and in line with the ambitious and evolving strategy of the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, continues its dedicated efforts to build a giving society that forms the main pillar for the future of a state rooted in law and institutions, in pursuit of Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
He highlighted Bahrain’s achievements in advancing education, healthcare, housing, empowering civil society institutions, and enabling youth to contribute to state-building. He also noted national initiatives such as digital transformation and artificial intelligence, as well as investment in capabilities to address challenges including food security and climate change.
Al Musallam noted that the Kingdom of Bahrain continues to support peace efforts in the region and the world and has launched numerous international initiatives promoting peace, tolerance, coexistence, and human rights. In this context, Bahrain hosted the "Intra-Islamic Dialogue: One Nation, One Shared Destiny" conference last February under royal patronage.
He further underlined that, in reaffirming the importance of strong institutions under good governance as a foundation for social advancement, the Supreme Council for Women in the Kingdom of Bahrain continues its distinguished efforts to promote women’s rights and gender balance, moving beyond empowerment to progress. This includes greater participation of Bahraini women in political and public life, stronger economic contributions, and protection from all forms of discrimination, alongside leading legislative and executive achievements in supporting children and families, in accordance with laws derived from Islamic principles and national values.
The Speaker reaffirmed the Kingdom of Bahrain’s unwavering position in supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and their establishment of an independent and sovereign Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and relevant international resolutions.
He called on the conference to adopt the final communiqué of the Intra-Islamic Dialogue Conference held in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as the Declaration of the 33rd Arab Summit (Bahrain Summit), both of which reaffirm support for Palestine as the central cause of the Islamic nation.
