Wetland Zoo Targets 2028 Phase 1 Launch

BANGKOK, May 15 (TNA) - Thailand is developing a 120-acre rai zoological park in the Thung Rangsit area of Pathum Thani, slated to become the world's first dedicated wetland zoo. The initial phase of the project is expected to open in 2028, ultimately replacing Bangkok's already closed Dusit Zoo.

Natural Resources and Environment Minister Chalermchai Sri-on recently toured the construction site in Thanyaburi district. The new facility will showcase over 100 animal species in spacious, barrier-free environments designed to mimic their natural habitats, with the ambitious goal of allowing species like deer and tigers to coexist. The full zoo is anticipated to be operational by 2029.

Envisioned as a leading international-standard zoological attraction, the Thung Rangsit zoo will be divided into six distinct zones. Its core missions include providing comprehensive natural education, actively engaging in wildlife conservation and research initiatives, and promoting environmentally conscious eco-tourism. Authorities project that the unique wetland concept and modern design will draw millions of visitors each year. -819 (TNA)
