H. Delano Roosevelt Talks to SPA About Late President’s Historic Meeting with King Abdulaziz, Deep-Rooted Saudi-US Ties

Washington, May 13, 2025, SPA -- Second President and CEO of the National Council on US-Arab Relations Hall Delano Roosevelt spoke to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) about the historic meeting between his grandfather, the late US President Franklin D. Roosevelt, and King Abdulaziz bin Abdulrahman Al Saud in 1945.
Roosevelt, who also served as President and CEO of the US-Saudi Business Council, highlighted the deep strategic relationship between Saudi Arabia and the United States during his interview with SPA.
He recalled significant historical milestones that have solidified these ties, emphasizing that the meeting between the founder king and President Roosevelt marked a pivotal turning point in cooperation between the two nations.
Roosevelt recounted the memorable gathering aboard the American cruiser USS Quincy, where the two leaders discussed various areas of collaboration, including agricultural and industrial development and energy. At the time, Saudi Arabia was eager to leverage its natural resources and establish effective international partnerships to support its development goals.
The meeting recognized the importance of strengthening communication and laid the foundation for a strategic partnership that has since seen decades of progress across multiple sectors.
Roosevelt stressed that the Saudi-American relationship is built on a solid foundation of shared interests, mutual respect, and constructive cooperation. He underscored the need for continued dialogue and integrated efforts to support security, stability, and development both regionally and globally.
As US President Donald J. Trump arrived in Riyadh on Tuesday, Roosevelt noted that this visit carries positive implications and strategic aspirations that will contribute to enhancing security and stability and serve the mutual interests of countries in the Middle East and beyond.
