HH Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad leads Bahrain delegation to 37th GCC Olympic meeting

Kuwait, May 11 (BNA): His Highness Shaikh Khalid bin Hamad Al Khalifa, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Youth and Sports, President of the General Sports Authority, and President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee, led Bahrain’s delegation at the 37th meeting of GCC Olympic Committee Presidents, held in Kuwait.
The Bahraini delegation included His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa, Vice President of the Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC); Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, BOC Secretary-General; and board member Fajr Jassim.
Decisions issued at the meeting included commissioning relevant committees to review the final report of the third GCC Beach Games held recently in Oman, approving Qatar as host of the fourth GCC Games in 2026, and endorsing Kuwait’s request to host the second GCC Youth Games in 2028.
The council also called for a unified calendar for GCC sporting events from 2029 to 2032, to be prepared in coordination with international and regional sporting schedules.
The United Arab Emirates was named host of the first GCC Sports Law and Management Conference in 2026, reflecting the growing emphasis on professional and regulatory frameworks in sport.
Member states also pledged collective support for the development of a unified platform dedicated to promoting women’s sports across the Gulf, ensuring it is launched with the resources and backing required for long-term success.
The council also agreed that the GCC General Secretariat will work with the United Arab Emirates, as incoming chair, to confirm the date and venue for the 38th meeting, which will be preceded by an Executive Office preparatory session.
