Social Development Minister participates in Egypt’s 'Takaful and Karama' anniversary event

Cairo, May 11 (BNA): Osama bin Saleh Al Alawi, Minister of Social Development and Chairman of the 44th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs, participated remotely in a ceremony hosted by the Arab Republic of Egypt to mark the 10th anniversary of the launch of the "Takaful and Karama" programme.

The event was organised by the Egyptian Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade under the patronage and in the presence of His Excellency Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister of Egypt, and Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity, with the participation of several ministers and representatives from regional and international organisations.

Minister Al Alawi highlighted one of the leading Arab experiences in social protection. He commended the role of Egypt’s Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade in designing and implementing the programme, which has effectively empowered vulnerable groups and promoted human dignity.

He noted that social protection programmes extend beyond direct support, forming a foundation for social equity and equal opportunity when combined with education, healthcare, and economic empowerment. He stressed the need to ensure their sustainability by shifting from support to empowerment and productivity.

Minister Al Alawi also highlighted the Kingdom of Bahrain’s efforts to enhance its social protection system and modernise related legislation in line with sustainable development goals and the national vision to improve the quality of life and empower eligible groups.

He underlined the vital role of technology and digital transformation in enhancing the efficiency of social programmes, and commended both Bahrain’s and Egypt’s early adoption of advanced approaches in this area.

Minister Al Alawi emphasised the need to strengthen Arab cooperation and share successful models like the "Takaful and Karama" programme. He called for stronger partnerships to support vulnerable groups and adapt social protection programmes to demographic and digital changes for greater impact and sustainability.
