Youth Minister participates in UN ECOSOC Youth Forum

New York, Apr. 18 (BNA): Rawan bint Najeeb Tawfiqi, Minister of Youth Affairs, participated in the opening session of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, held under the theme “Working with and for Youth towards Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for the 2030 Agenda.”
On the forum’s sidelines, the minister participated in a ministerial meeting hosted by the UN Office of the Secretary General’s Envoy on Youth, focused on enhancing youth participation in policymaking and decision-making processes.
During her remarks, the minister emphasised that empowering youth and involving them in decision-making is essential to building inclusive and sustainable societies.
She highlighted Bahrain’s experience in developing the youth sector, highlighting the ministry’s role in enabling 23 specialised youth associations led by volunteers active in fields such as talent management, leadership, and innovation.
She also participated in a panel session on youth engagement in the workforce, underscoring Bahrain’s efforts to involve young people in addressing national challenges and fostering institutional participation.
The minister attended the tenth anniversary commemoration of UN Security Council Resolution 2250 (2015) on youth, peace, and security, as well as an event organised by the Russian Federation Mission on youth empowerment policies.
On the sidelines, she met with senior UN officials, including Dennis Francis, President of the 78th UN General Assembly; Felipe Paullier, Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs; Li Junhua, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs; and Bob Rae, President of ECOSOC.
She underscored Bahrain’s commitment to strong UN cooperation, particularly in the youth sector, and discussed ways to strengthen joint initiatives in support of youth engagement and sustainable development.
