Tamim: We Strive To Work Together With All Our Brothers To Achieve The 2030 Sustainable Development Plan

Baghdad / NINA / -Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Planning, Mohammed Ali Tamim, affirmed: "Iraq is striving, with all its capabilities, to work together with all its brothers and seek comprehensive solutions based on science and evidence to advance the 2030 Sustainable Development Plan."
In a speech during his chairmanship of the Arab Forum for Sustainable Development, which began its work today, Monday, in Beirut under the chairmanship of Iraq, Tamim said: "We are working to develop mature visions and innovative solutions, by charting sound and safe paths to achieve the desired goals, especially in the areas of good health and well-being, equal opportunities, decent work, and economic growth, by forging more partnerships to achieve the goals."
He added: "Our Arab countries face significant challenges related to security, economic, institutional, social, and demographic aspects, most notably the prevalence of the rentier model, steady population growth rates, and high unemployment rates. The repercussions we face include shrinking fiscal space and accumulating debt, as many of our countries are no longer able to finance projects that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals." He noted: "Efforts remain timid and indicators are declining, which calls for strengthening partnerships, activating national mechanisms for sustainable development efforts, bridging the data gap, and formulating consistent, comprehensive policies guided by science and research." Tamim reviewed Iraq's achievements, stressing: "The Iraqi government has made exceptional efforts over the past three years to achieve the achievable Sustainable Development Goals. These efforts have resulted in a significant decline in poverty and unemployment rates, improved per capita income, increased gross domestic product, and marked improvements in the health, education, housing, services, and infrastructure sectors, thanks to the implementation of thousands of projects in these areas."
He continued: "Iraq succeeded for the first time in conducting a general population and housing census. We launched the National Population Policy Document in 2023, prepared the five-year development plan for 2024-2028, the National Education Strategy 2022-2031, the Iraqi Women's Strategy, and the Iraq Youth Vision 2030. We are also preparing to launch the Poverty Reduction Strategy for 2025-2029 and the Social Protection Strategy to accelerate effective responses to crises."
He pointed out: "Iraq has witnessed political stability, in light of the consolidation of the principle of peaceful transfer of power, and we are preparing during this year to hold the sixth round of general elections next November. On the security side, Iraq has recorded significant progress, which has been positively reflected in the paths of life, socially and economically, and is working to fulfill its global commitments in terms of the use of clean energy, reducing emissions, air conditioning and mitigating climate change." / End
