QC Inaugurates Two Projects to Help Children, Persons with Special Needs in Somalia

Mogadishu, March 23 (QNA) - Qatar Charity (QC) emphasized that the generous donations provided by benefactors in the State of Qatar had contributed to implementing two humanitarian projects in Somalia, in mitigating the suffering of children with heart conditions and supporting persons with special needs.
In a statement on Sunday, QC highlighted that the two projects were launched by a delegation from QC, led by Director of the Development Operations Department, Abdulaziz Jassim Hejji with Somali ministers and officials in attendance, adding that through its 'Compassionate Hearts' initiative, it facilitated critical surgeries for 30 children with heart defects at the Somali Sudanese Hospital in Mogadishu, thanks to the dedication of local and international volunteer doctors.
HE Somali Minister of Health, Dr. Ali Haji, lauded the initiative as a model of humanitarian solidarity. In his speech during the launch, he said, "Compassionate Hearts" is not just a medical project, but a model of humanitarian solidarity that leads to the development of communities.
He highlighted that such precise surgeries were once considered impossible within Somalia, forcing patients to travel abroad or live with pain due to a lack of resources.
For his part, spokesperson for the surgical team, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Nairobi, affirmed that the surgeries performed were not just medical interventions, but a message of new life for the children and their families.
In addition, QC launched the first phase of a project to distribute 700 wheelchairs in Somalia, providing 70 electric and manual wheelchairs to support individuals with special needs.
Hejji emphasized that work is ongoing to promote the rights of individuals with special needs and providing everything that contributes to improving their living conditions and including them in the community.
He stated that the initiative is part of ongoing work to establish a headquarters for the Department of People with Disabilities, along with training and rehabilitation centers that contribute to upgrading their skills and abilities.
Chairman of the National Disability Agency (NDA) said the distribution of wheelchair is a concrete step toward improving the lives of persons with special needs in Somalia, adding that this support enhances their independence and effective social engagement in the community.
State Minister for Family Affairs and Human Rights Mohamed Osman said the initiative reflects the strong partnership between the Somali government and international humanitarian organizations like QC, emphasizing the importance of the power of collaboration to create positive change in the lives of the most vulnerable groups.
