By Mohd Iswandi Kasan Anuar

JAKARTA, March 13 (Bernama) -- Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono has praised the progress in negotiations with Malaysia over the maritime and land border, vowing to continue the process until the outstanding issues are resolved.

The discussions took place during a courtesy visit from Malaysia’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Syed Mohamad Hasrin Tengku Hussin, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Central Jakarta on Wednesday.

According to a statement from the ministry, the two sides also addressed a range of important issues central to their bilateral relationship, including economic cooperation, ASEAN, and the situation in Palestine.

On economic matters, Sugiono expressed confidence in the future of Indonesia-Malaysia relations, emphasising the significance of Malaysian investments in Indonesia.

Notable collaborations include partnerships between the two countries’ state-owned oil companies, Pertamina and Petronas, as well as joint efforts on palm oil matters.

“Malaysia is the fourth largest investor from Southeast Asia, with investments totalling US$4.1 billion in 2024,” he stated.

Regarding ASEAN, the minister reiterated Indonesia’s support for Malaysia’s Chairmanship of the regional bloc this year.

The two sides also discussed the ongoing Palestinian issue, with both reaffirming their commitment to a resolution, including a permanent ceasefire and a Two-State Solution.

Indonesia views Malaysia as an important partner and a close neighbour, with diplomatic relations between the two countries having been established for 68 years, the statement said.
