S. Korea to roll out 'stealth' UAV prototype

SEOUL, Feb. 25 (Yonhap) -- South Korea is set to unveil the prototype of a low observable Wingman unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) Tuesday, with plans to conduct its first test flight later this year, according to officials at the state-run defense research agency.

A ceremony marking the rollout of the prototype, jointly developed by the Agency for Defense Development (ADD) and national flag carrier Korean Air, will take place in the southeastern city of Busan at 2 p.m., according to ADD officials.

The move comes as the military has been seeking to further develop and incorporate drones, which have emerged as a cost-effective weapon in modern battlefields.

The ADD and Korean Air aim to hold a test flight of the prototype at the end of the year and complete development of the final version by 2027.
