Malaysia Joins Second Phase of Jordan-Led Humanitarian Air Bridge to Gaza
PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), Feb 3 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has joined the second phase of the Jordan-led Humanitarian Air Bridge to Gaza, reaffirming its commitment to supporting relief efforts for the Palestinian people.
In a statement Monday, the Foreign Ministry said Malaysia’s participation in the initiative was facilitated through its Embassy in Amman.
The Malaysian delegation was welcomed by Col. Plt. Osama Al Khatib, Commander of King Abdullah II Airbase, and members of the Royal Jordanian Air Force (RJAF).
The visit underscored Malaysia’s continued support for Jordan’s humanitarian efforts.
“This follows Malaysia’s contribution of US$5 million from the Humanitarian Trust Fund for the People of Palestine (AAKRP) to the Jordanian Government on Dec 18, 2024, which is being utilised for this air bridge operation,” said the statement.
Malaysia previously participated in the first phase of the operation on Jan 28, 2025.
According to the ministry, the Jordanian-led air bridge, directed by King Abdullah II, has been in operation since January 28 and is set to continue until tomorrow, deploying 16 helicopters with 16 daily flights by the RJAF in coordination with friendly nations.
The air bridge aims to deliver urgent relief supplies, including medical aid, food, and baby essentials, directly into affected areas in Gaza.
Malaysia, Greece and Italy are among the earliest nations to support this initiative, with more countries expected to join in the coming days.
“Malaysia remains committed to supporting Jordan’s efforts in addressing the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, which has persisted since the war began on Oct 7, 2023, and has not ceased since the announcement of the ceasefire on Jan 15, 2025,” it said.
Malaysia also reaffirmed its unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people in their struggle for self-determination and statehood, based on pre-1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
“Malaysia will continue to advocate for Palestinian freedom, dignity, and justice on the global stage,” the statement added.
