ISTANBUL (A.A) - 07.07.2009 - Turkish foreign minister said on Tuesday that Turkey and United Arab Emirates (UAE) had a common stance towards the developments in their region.
Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Ahmet Davutoglu and UAE's Foreign Minister Abdallah bin Zayid al-Nuhayyan held a joint press conference following their gathering within the framework of the "First Meeting of Foreign Ministers of the Turkey-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) High Level Strategic Dialogue" held in Istanbul.
During the conference, Davutoglu said Turkey and UAE had good political and economic relations, stating that the trade volume between the two countries reached 9 billion USD in 2008.
Davutoglu also said that the two countries would cooperate more in defense industry, services sector, tourism and education from now on.
Pointing to Turkey and UAE's common approach to regional matters, Davutoglu said, "We have decided to carry out a stronger cooperation regarding regional issues".
Al-Nuhayyan said in his part that there were numerous areas on which the two countries could cooperate.
Replying to a question on USA's stance regarding Iran's nuclear program, Davutoglu said Turkey desired the regional issues to be solved through diplomacy and peaceful efforts.
"The tension is already high in the Middle East, this tension should not be increased with new matters," Davutoglu said.
Commenting on the same question, Al-Nuhayyan said that the international community should respect Iran, but at the same time, Iran should perceive the region's and the world's fears.
