SEOUL, Dec. 11 (Yonhap) -- LS Cable & System Ltd., South Korea's biggest cable company, said Wednesday it has won a 907.3 billion-won (US$633.5 million) deal for an offshore wind energy project in Germany.
Under the deal with TenneT Offshore GmbH, a German subsidiary of the Dutch transmission system operator TenneT B.V., LS Cable will provide 525-kilovolt high-voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine and underground cables and other accessories to the project, according to the company.
It will also carry out electric connection works and field tests.
Previously, LS Cable signed two main contracts worth a combined 1.5 trillion won last year as part of a 2 trillion-won framework agreement with TenneT for Europe-wide HVDC cable projects.
The HVDC technology converts alternating current (AC) power from power plants into high-voltage direct current for long-distance transmission.
This method reduces energy loss and is compatible with AC systems of varying frequencies, enhancing stability and efficiency.
