International Conference on Learning Cities Concludes with Call for Action on Sustainable Development
Jubail, December 05, 2024, SPA -- The Sixth International Conference on Learning Cities, held by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Global Network of Learning Cities, concluded today with a final statement emphasizing the critical role of individuals and communities in driving sustainable change, the urgent need for action to meet the sustainable development goals, and the importance of continuous education and informed decision-making in shaping a brighter future for future generations.
Participants underscored the significance of sustainable urban development and cities' vital role in leading the charge against global challenges such as climate change and pollution. They underlined the need to adopt innovative and sustainable practices and promote continuing education, empowering individuals and communities to actively contribute to creating a better future.
They also highlighted the importance of involving all segments of society in decision-making for sustainable development and the role of art and culture in fostering cohesive and creative communities. They advocated for promoting values of tolerance and cooperation to create a more just and peaceful world.
Participants also proposed a range of innovative solutions to sustainable development challenges, including leveraging AI and digital technologies to raise climate awareness, developing tools for municipalities to establish effective climate education standards, and empowering youth with the skills needed to contribute to a sustainable future.
