Iran’s Innovators Recognized at BRICS Young Scientists Event

Iran’s Innovators were honored at the 9th BRICS Young Scientists Forum and the 7th edition of the Best Young Innovators Award.

According to Mehr News Agency, citing the Vice Presidency for Science, Technology, and Knowledge-based Economy of the Iranian President’s Office, with the support of the International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Development Organization and the Center for Transformation and Progress Cooperation of the President's Office, the Iranian young innovators team participated in the 9th BRICS Young Scientists Forum and the 7th Best Young Innovators Award.

The 7th edition of the Best Young Innovators Award, held simultaneously with the 9th BRICS Young Scientists Event in 2024, took place in Sochi, Russia. The event featured 30 young innovators from eight BRICS member countries, including the Islamic Republic of Iran, Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, the UAE, and Egypt.

A team consisting of eight young scientists and four innovators, supported by the International Technology Exchange Office of the International Scientific and Technological Cooperation Development Organization and the Center for Transformation and Progress Cooperation of the President's Office, participated in the event.

The event showcased innovative ideas in various fields of green technologies, focusing on food, chemical, agricultural industries, and artificial intelligence applications.

The evaluation and judging of the top innovations were based on criteria such as business models, feasibility, and future prospects of the ideas, carried out by a jury panel composed of eight judges from the participating countries.

Seyed Mohammad Karbasi, Secretary of the Connectivity and Communications Technologies Development Headquarters, who was a member of the judging panel, stated: "Given Iran’s recent membership in BRICS, this was the first time that the Iranian team participated in this innovative competition."

He added that the Iranian innovators actively engaged in the competition, noting that Brazil, China, and Russia were awarded the top positions, with Dr. Somayeh Sohrabi’s project being recognized as an "honorable mention."

Karbasi emphasized the creation of technological collaboration opportunities among BRICS countries during the event: "Alongside the event, bilateral meetings were held to foster cooperation between the Iranian delegation and other delegations, providing a valuable opportunity for sharing experiences and highlighting bilateral priorities and capacities."
