Saudi Delegation to U20 Hosts Gala Event to Celebrate Mayoral Leadership in Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro, November 24, 2024, SPA -- A Saudi Arabian delegation led by Advisor to the General Secretariat of the Saudi Arabian Council of Ministers Fahd Al-Rasheed attended the 7th Urban 20 Global Summit in Rio de Janeiro, promoting Saudi Arabia’s policies and projects at one of the world’s most significant urban development forums. The Urban 20 brings together cities from G20 member states to discuss global economic, climate, and development issues.
   Among the highlights of the delegation’s activities was a mayoral dinner co-hosted by the Advisor Al-Rasheed and Mayor of Rio de Janeiro and Chair of this year’s Urban 20 Eduardo Paes. The event brought together more than 100 city leaders, including the mayors of Paris, Pretoria, Helsinki, and Phoenix, to celebrate mayoral leadership and the impact that mayors have on the cities they lead.
   Also attending were representatives from multinational organizations, including Executive Director of UN-Habitat Anaclلudia Rossbach.
   The dinner marked the first time an international delegation hosted such an event during the Urban 20. In his opening remarks at the dinner, Al-Rasheed said, “Mayoral leadership calls for a unique combination of abilities to anticipate and navigate future trends, including technological disruptions, economic shifts, and demographic changes, while demonstrating the social sensitivity to care for and improve citizens’ daily lives. By convening senior city leaders from around the world to address the common challenges of urban development and city leadership, Saudi Arabia continues to demonstrate its commitment to global collaboration in the spirit of the Urban 20.”
