Chinese Suspect Arrested After Bt12 mln Heist

BANGKOK, Oct 22 (TNA) - The police have arrested one of five suspects involved in a high-profile robbery of two Chinese businessmen in Bangkok’s Huay Khwang district.

The incident occurred on October 19 when the group stormed into the victim's office, threatened him with a gun, and made off with 3.2 million baht in cash. They then kidnapped the victim, demanding a ransom, before releasing him on a road in Kaset-Nawamin. The suspects allegedly took 12 million baht in total from the victims.

Following the incident, Thai police launched a manhunt, tracking the suspects to various border crossings and airports.

Police at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Monday apprehended one of the suspects as he was attempting to flee to Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

During the arrest, authorities seized a large amount of cash, a passport from the Economic Community of West African States, and plastic handcuffs. Police believe these items will provide crucial evidence in the ongoing investigation.

The suspects are facing multiple charges, including extortion, kidnapping and illegal possession of firearms.

A surprising twist in the case came to light when police questioned one victim's ex-wife. Investigators suspect that she  who is now married to one of the suspects, may have tipped off the robbers about the victim's wealth and business activities. She was arrested on Monday and is facing charges of conspiracy to commit a crime.

While one suspect has been arrested in Pattaya, three others remain at large, including one who is believed to have already fled the country. -819 (TNA)
