Japan favors closer cooperation with Iran on Afghanistan
Head of Japanese Parliament’s foreign commission Taro Kono said his country favored closer cooperation with Iran on Afghanistan and Pakistan.
In a meeting with the visiting head of Iranian Parliament’s foreign policy commission Alaaeddin Boroujerdi here on Friday, he said boosting of such kind of cooperation between the two countries would result in further consolidation of stability in the region.
Pointing to Japan’s independence on the energy obtained from the Middle East, the Japanese parliamentarian also said it was important for his country to see the region enjoys full security and stability.
He also called for expansion of ties between the two countries in such areas as politics, economy and culture.
Boroujerdi congratulated Japanese politician on the election of Mr Yoki Amano as the new chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
Referring to undergoing efforts by the two countries to boost ties, he also said the present global economic crisis provided a ripe chance for Japanese companies to invest in Iranian oil, gas and petrochemical projects.
On Iran’s nuclear programs, he said Iran was conducting its nuclear projects in full compliance with international laws and regulations and had already offered a plan on a Middle East devoid of any nuclear weapons.
He also voiced Iran’s readiness to cooperate with japan on plans and projects to reconstruct Afghanistan, fight narcotics trafficking there and facilitating return of afghan refugees to their homeland.
