Envoy: Local employees are subject to Iranian laws


Iran's ambassador to Berlin Alireza Sheikh Attar said, according to the Vienna Convention, local employees of an embassy are subject to their own country's laws.

He added that local employees of British embassy in Tehran do not have political immunity and are under Iran's laws.
In a meeting with director general for Middle East and North African Affairs in Germany Foreign Ministry on Friday afternoon, Sheikh Attar expressed this note in relation to the latest stances taken by the European Union concerning Iran.
He added double standards of the EU in recent years concerning Iran's peaceful nuclear program as well as recent case on Iran election has created doubt in public opinion.
Sheikh Attar expressed hope for a constructive and fair approach toward the issue by EU and European countries.
Referring to the release of seven people of the arrested local employees of British embassy in Tehran, Attar express optimism on release of the two remaining in coming days.
He said that the issue can be solved easily, if a logical approach is adopted, and called for not resorting to threat or exaggeration by the EU.
The envoy underlined that otherwise, considering Iranina historical morale, the European sides will face unfortunate results.
Criticizing some of the recent stances of the German officials concerning Iran's events, Attar referred to the existing positive views of Iranians concerning Germany and recommended that the Berlin officials, by taking constructive approaches, guarantee continuation of such a positive view in Iranian public opinion.
The Germany Foreign Ministry official, Andreas Michealis, for his part, expressed his country's concern as well as the EU's about the arrest of British embassy local employees in Tehran.
