France assists Kyrgyzstan to provide health services in remote regions

Minister of Health of Kyrgyzstan Alymkadyr Beishenaliev and French Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Nicolas Faye signed a declaration of intent on cooperation between the Health Ministries.

The two countries agreed to cooperate on maternal and child health care, innovations in health care, including digital health, support for investment projects, medical education and promotion of basic and applied scientific research in clinical and preventive medicine, the press service of the Kyrgyz Health Ministry reported.

The first actions in the field of access to medical care began with the launch of a pilot project on teleconsultation in Kyrgyzstan’s Issyk-Kul Oblast with the participation of the French company C3Medical represented by its CEO Jerome Soistier.

The Embassy of France in Kyrgyzstan offered a mobile teleconsultation solution from HopiMedical. This solution, equipped with the latest connected instruments (electrocardiogram, ultrasound, stethoscope, otoscope, hand-held camera, dermatoscope), allows for consultations in general medicine, pediatrics, cardiology, obstetrics and gynecology, ENT, dermatology, virology, as well as monitoring of chronic diseases.

The pilot project started in 8 health posts in villages of Issyk-Kul. The teleconsultation suitcase, which moves from one obstetric point to another, allows each point to be virtually connected with doctors at the Issyk-Kul Oblast United Hospital. A nurse accompanying the patient to the obstetric point is guided in all manipulations by the doctor located in the center of the region. This solution saves the patient from long and expensive trips, often unnecessary or, on the contrary, when it becomes too late.

Remote prevention and monitoring of patients, especially those suffering from cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hypertension and obesity, is facilitated by teleconsultation. Pregnancy and fetal development are also monitored.

Initial results are impressive. More than 75 teleconsultations have been conducted within a month of training the teams at the obstetric point. The satisfaction rate is 100% for nurses and doctors and 97% for patients.

The purpose of the French teleconsultation equipment is to provide direct access to diagnosis and treatment in rural and hard-to-reach areas where it was not available.
