Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Participates in the United Nations International Conference on Victims of Terrorism
Madrid, October 08, 2024, SPA -- Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Eng. Waleed ElKhereiji participated on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, in the United Nations International Conference on Victims of Terrorism, which was held in the capital of the Kingdom of Spain under the theme "Education as a Tool for Prevention, Peace building, and Empowerment of Victims of Terrorism."
The minister delivered a speech in which he expressed the Kingdom's welcome to all efforts made by the United Nations represented by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism and the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Centre, expressing the Kingdom's thanks to Spain for hosting this conference, which confirms everyone's commitment to combating this scourge and eradicating it from its roots, as it threatens everyone and all religions and races disavow it.
Eng. ElKhereiji reiterated the Kingdom's condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, stressing that all acts and manifestations of terrorism are criminal and unjustified regardless of their motives and objectives. Eng. ElKhereiji also underscored that the Kingdom contributes through its various efforts to combat terrorism by supporting the efforts of the United Nations in commemorating the International Day of Victims of Terrorism and joins the world in celebrating it, as marking the victims of terrorism, preserving their rights and justice, and providing support and care for them, is a fundamental pillar in the comprehensive confrontation of terrorism.
Eng. ElKhereiji stated that the Kingdom has made efforts to combat terrorism and extremism through technology and hastened to establish the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (Etidal) as a mechanism concerned with monitoring and analyzing extremist thought to confront and prevent it.
Eng. ElKhereiji stressed the Kingdom's continued cooperation on an ongoing basis within the framework of its international efforts with the mechanisms of the United Nations Human Rights Council, as it received the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, who praised the efforts made by the Kingdom in combating terrorism.
Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs concluded his speech by emphasizing the importance of coordinated international efforts at all levels to empower all victims of terrorism through education, rehabilitation, providing support and care, limiting extremist thought and discourse, and eradicating terrorism from its roots.
