Kyrgyzstan establishes diplomatic relations with 172nd country

A ceremony of establishing diplomatic relations between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Angola was held on Sept. 26 in New York on the margins of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, the press service of the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry said.

A joint communiqué was signed by Kyrgyz Foreign Minister Jeenbek Kulubaev and Angolan Minister of External Relations Tete Antonio.

During the talks, the parties agreed to increase political dialog and multifaceted cooperation through the mechanism of bilateral consultations and high-level visits.

The issues of education, climate change, tourism, security and interaction within international organizations were discussed as the main areas of cooperation for the development of bilateral relations at the initial stage.

In this context, Minister Kulubaev expressed a request to support Kyrgyzstan's candidacy for non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council for 2027-2028.

In addition, he asked Angola to support the Kyrgyz Republic's obtaining observer status in the African Union.

Angola became the 172nd country with which the Kyrgyz Republic established diplomatic relations.
