India Gate Enters Malaysia Book Of Records For Highest 'Biryani', 'Naan' Sales
PETALING JAYA, Sept 16 (Bernama) -- India Gate Restaurant, renowned for its authentic South and North Indian cuisine, has been listed in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for selling the highest number of biryani and naan dishes in a single year.
The restaurant sold an impressive 573,619 units of biryani and 379,485 units of naan bread over the course of one year.
India Gate Restaurant founder and managing director Saravanan Subramaniam said he was proud of the achievement.
"This recognition is a great honour for our restaurant as biryani and naan are among the top dishes from our extensive menu of 158 items," he told the media after receiving the award from a representative of MBR at the opening of India Gate's 10th branch in New Town, Petaling Jaya, on Friday (Sept 13).
Saravanan said the restaurant chain has revamped its menu starting from this month to offer a more unique dining experience.
"We’ve introduced new and exciting dishes to keep our customers delighted," he added.
At the opening of the 10th branch, which was attended by 200 guests, 1,000 servings of biryani were distributed free to the public. The new branch can accommodate 170 diners and features four private dining rooms, each with a capacity of 12, as well as party halls equipped with karaoke facilities.
Sharing his plans for the further expansion of his restaurant chain, Saravanan said a new outlet at Jalan Changkat, Bukit Bintang, Kuala Lumpur, will be opened in December.
"Next year, we are targeting to open branches in Johor, Penang, Ipoh (Perak) and Melaka, and we are also exploring opportunities to expand overseas, starting with Singapore," he added.
The first India Gate outlet was opened in Cyberjaya, Selangor, in 2017.
