Saudi Team Returns Home with Two Medals at IOI 2024
Riyadh, September 09, 2024, SPA --The Saudi informatics team returned home on Sunday after winning two medals at the 36th International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI 2024), held in Alexandria, Egypt, from September 1 to 8. This achievement has boosted Saudi Arabia's standing in this annual competition, bringing its total accolades to eight, including six bronze medals and two certificates of commendation.
In this year’s Olympiad, Adib Salem Ali Al-Shehri from the Eastern Region education department and Ahmed Saleh bin Taher Al-Hashim from Al-Ahsa education department both earned a bronze medal, competing against 364 students from 96 countries.
This accomplishment is a testament to the rigorous training and preparation provided to Saudi students through training camps organized by the King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity (Mawhiba) for the Saudi national team, both within and beyond Saudi Arabia, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and supported by Elm.
The IOI 2024 is an annual international programming competition for high school students and one of the longest-standing computer science contests in the world. It was first held in 1989 in Bulgaria, under the endorsement of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP).
