Ryu Hae-ran earns 2nd career LPGA title in playoff

SEOUL, Sept. 2 (Yonhap) -- Sophomore Ryu Hae-ran has found the LPGA winner's circle for the second time in her career with a playoff victory.

Ryu captured the inaugural FM Championship at TPC Boston in Norton, Massachusetts, on Sunday (local time), after beating fellow South Korean Ko Jin-young on the first hole of the sudden-death playoff with a par.

Ryu, the 2023 LPGA Rookie of the Year, overcame a four-shot deficit at the start of the final round to set up the playoff by shooting a 64, with nine birdies against one bogey.

She became only the second South Korean player to win on the LPGA Tour this year, joining Amy Yang, the winner of the KPMG Women's PGA Championship in June.

Ko, former world No. 1, was chasing her 16th career title, but the overnight leader fell into the playoff after missing a birdie putt on the par-5 18th and signing for a 68 in the final round. She bogeyed the 18th in the playoff after missing the green with her third shot.
