Taekwondo Athlete Surenjav Makes History as Mongolia's First Female Paralympic Gold Medalist
Ulaanbaatar, August 30, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The Paris 2024 Paralympics kicked off on August 29, 2024, igniting a surge of anticipation and excitement across the globe.
On the first day of the Paris 2024 Paralympics, Mongolian Athlete Surenjav Ulambayar won a gold medal in taekwondo in the women’s K44 -52 kg category.
Surenjav Ulambayar brought home Mongolia’s fifth medal in its Paralympic history, becoming Mongolia’s third Paralympic gold medalist. Previously, she won a bronze medal at the World Para Taekwondo Championships, a gold medal at the European Championships, a gold medal at the Oceania Para Open Championships, and a silver medal at the “Hangzhou 2023” Asian Para Games.
At the 17th Summer Paralympic Games, around 4400 athletes from 168 countries of five continents are competing for 549 medals in 22 categories. From Mongolia, 12 athletes are competing in six sports categories at the Paralympics.
