President Biden Extends Independence Day Greetings to Malaysia
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 31 (Bernama) -- United States (US) President Joe Biden has extended his greetings to Malaysia’s King Sultan Ibrahim, and the people of Malaysia on the occasion of the country’s 67th Independence Day.
In his message, Biden conveyed his best wishes on behalf of the US saying, “I send my best wishes to you and the people of Malaysia as you celebrate your day of independence.”
He noted that Malaysia and the US have enjoyed nearly seven decades of friendship and cooperation, underpinned by a shared vision for a secure, prosperous and resilient future.
“Together, we are strengthening our strong economic, people-to-people and security ties,” he said.
Biden also highlighted joint efforts in empowering entrepreneurs, especially women, through various programmes that share knowledge, skills, and networks, enabling them to launch and scale successful businesses globally.
The US President also expressed confidence in the continued flourishing of bilateral relations through their shared commitment to promoting a free, open, prosperous, and secure Indo-Pacific region.
In concluding his message, Biden extended his heartfelt wishes for “joyous and peaceful celebrations as you honor your independence.”
Meanwhile, leaders of South Asian countries also greeted Malaysia on its National Day on Saturday.
Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu felicitated Sultan Ibrahim and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on the occasion.
Muizzu in separate letters to the King and prime minister noted that the Maldives-Malaysia partnership is based on mutual respect, shared principles, and enduring people-to-people ties.
The president "expressed confidence that the long-standing partnership between the two countries will continue to strengthen for the benefit of both countries," according to a statement from his office.
Maldives Foreign Minister Moosa Zameer greeted his Malaysia counterpart Mohamad Hasan on the occasion, saying he looked forward "to further strengthening the close and friendly relations between our two countries."
Sri Lanka and Pakistan also greeted Malaysia.
"On the occasion of the National Day of Malaysia, we extend our heartiest felicitations to its people and government," Pakistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a social media post.
In messages from other regions, Turkiye and Iran also warmly greeted Malaysia on the occasion.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran extends its sincere congratulations to the brotherly, friendly nation and Government of Malaysia on their Independence Day. Strengthening all-round relations is on the mutual agenda of the two nations," the Iranian Foreign Ministry said.
"Congratulations to brotherly and friendly Malaysia on its Independence Day!" said the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Meanwhile, India’s Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said in his message, congratulating his Malaysian counterpart on the 67th Independence Day: "Look forward to advancing our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership."
