BURIRAM (Thailand), Aug 26 (Bernama) -- Thailand's Ministry of Education is committed to working together with other ASEAN member states to transform education in the digital era.
The minister, Police General Permpoon Chidchob, emphasised the importance of collaboration among ASEAN member states and dialogue partners in developing teachers and youth.
He highlighted the significance of creating spaces for the exchange of ideas and the building of networks through initiatives such as student exchange programmes, teacher and educational personnel exchanges, and the allocation of scholarships at all levels.
These efforts, he noted, will strengthen and develop deeper cooperation within the region.
He said this in his opening remarks at the 13th ASEAN Education Ministers Meeting (ASED) before officiating the 13th ASED and Related Meetings themed ‘Transforming Education in the Digital Era,’ held at Chang Arena here on Sunday (Aug 26).
He stressed that this educational transformation aims not only to create a system that meets the demands of the 21st century but also to prepare children and youth to face new challenges and opportunities.
He further said that Thailand's dedication to transforming education in the digital era aligns with the vision of the ASEAN Community 2025, which places people at the centre of development with a commitment to enhancing the quality of life for ASEAN citizens.
However, Permpoon noted that in transforming Thailand's education system, the government has established the "Thailand 4.0" policy, which seeks to propel Thailand into the digital era and foster an innovation-driven economy.
"We aim to create an education system that can respond to the changing world and prepare our children and youth with the necessary skills for the future," he said.
The ASED meeting also endorsed the Buriram Joint Statement of the 13th ASED, drafted by Thailand, which underscores the commitment to the ASEAN Vision 2025 and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The statement emphasises the pivotal role of education in addressing global challenges and supports Thailand’s focus on “Transforming Education in the Digital Era” by integrating regional cooperation and revitalising projects like student exchanges.
