PARIS, Aug 3 (Bernama) -- Chinese shuttler Huang Ya Qiong had a double-celebration after the 2024 Paris Olympics mixed doubles finals at the Porte de La Chapelle Arena, here Friday.
Ya Qiong, 30, and her partner Zheng Si Wei firstly improved their Tokyo 2020 silver medal achievement by beating South Koreans Kim Won Ho-Jeong Na Eun 21-8, 21-11 to win the gold.
Shortly after the medal presentation, she had a pleasant surprise when her boyfriend and China’s men’s doubles player Liu Yu Chen, 29, proposed to her with a diamond ring.
“I cannot describe the feeling because I am too happy, happy and happy. Getting the gold medal is recognition of our journey,” she said about the gold medal feat.
“I was surprised by the engagement ring. I haven’t thought about how we will celebrate (for the proposal and victory).”
Yu Chen, last edition’s silver medalist with Li Jun Hui, ended this edition’s campaign with Ou Xuan Yi as early as the group stage.
