Industry minister leaves for Seoul on investment promotion mission

BANGKOK, June 30 (TNA) – Thailand’s Industry Minister Charnchai Chairungrueng left Tuesday on a five-day visit to South Korea to persuade business interests there to invest more in Thailand and to officially open a Board of Investment (BoI) office in Seoul.

Expressing confidence that the new BoI office would help facilitate investment by nationals of both countries, Mr. Charnchai said the present level of investment by South Koreans in Thailand is more than Bt50 billion annually. He said he believed that investment would more than double after the office is open.

The Seoul office will be the 11th set up by the government’s investment promotion agency abroad and is aimed to facilitate its conducting campaigns to attract South Korean investors to invest in Thailand and provide vital information to potential investors.

South Korean investors have a great potential to invest in vehicle production, electronics and electrical appliances industries in Thailand, Mr. Charnchai said, suggesting that Thais might invest in food products in Korea. (TNA)
