Swat operation likely to end in few days, says Pakistan army spokesm
Islamabad, June 30, IRNA -- Military offensive against the militants in Swat valley will be completed in a few days as most of the area has been cleared of the terrorists, the army said Monday.
Security forces had launched major operation in Swat valley against Fazaullah-led militants early May and army says nearly over 1590 militants.
Army spokesamn Major General Athar Abbas told a news conference that command structure of the militants has been totally dismantled, their training centers discovered and destroyed, their recruits either killed or driven away/ran away and ammunition dumps destroyed.
He said the security forces have killed eighteen terrorists in Swat and North Waziristan Agency and also recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition during the last twenty-four hours.
He said sixteen soldiers including three officers were killed and six soldiers including one officer were injured in North Waziristan attack on Sunday.
He said a totally unprovoked attack by terrorists on the convoy of security forces with intense firing following by IEDs at Inzar Kas when the convoy was moving from Gharnamai to Ghutcha Bibi.
He said 12 soldiers were killed yesterday while 4 succumbed to injuries later in the Combined Military Hospital, taking the toll to sixteen.
He explained that it is the Law Enforcing Agencies operation to eliminate those who have challenged the writ of the government. He also explained that the operation is against a terrorist group and not against any tribe or people.
