Malaysia's Might and Indonesia's BRIN Collaborate on Research and Innovation

JAKARTA, June 20 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT) and Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency have inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on high-tech research and innovation initiatives.

In a statement Thursday, Malaysia's high-tech think-tank said the potential areas of collaboration include medicines based on natural ingredients, vaccine development, and agriculture based on local genetic resources.

"The proposed three-year collaboration will see both parties coming together to provide joint facilitation and coordination in the stipulated developmental areas, across multiple stakeholders and strategic platforms.

"This includes the use of research facilities of both nations and the mobilisation of researchers. The collaboration puts into practice the win-win philosophy in international collaborations in the area of high technology, in the spirit of equality and mutual benefit," said MIGHT.

The collaboration is supported by the Malaysia Science Endowment, an initiative by Malaysia’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI) and the Academy of Sciences of Malaysia to sustain the national research and development funding.

MIGHT was represented by its Joint-Chairman (Industry) Dr Ahmad Tajuddin Ali as well as President and Chief Executive Officer Rushdi Abdul Rahim.

BRIN meanwhile was represented by its Chairman Dr Laksana Tri Handoko, and Deputy Chairman for Facilitation of Research and Technology Prof Dr Agus Haryono.

MIGHT serves as Malaysia's high-tech think-tank, advising on industry development through the strategic use of science and technology for socioeconomic growth.

BRIN was established under Presidential Regulation as a National Research and Innovation Agency to undertake integrated research, development, studies, application, as well as invention and innovation.
