The President of the Republic receives the Acting Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs

Baghdad / NINA / -The President of the Republic, Abdul Latif Rashid, affirmed the sympathy of the Iraqi people and their standing by the Islamic Republic of Iran in this difficult circumstance with the passing of President Ibrahim Raisi.

 During his meeting with the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Bagheri Kani, and his accompanying delegation, in the presence of Foreign Minister Fuad Hussein, he pointed to the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries and the necessity of joint action to strengthen them based on the historical and religious ties and commonalities between the two neighboring peoples.

 A presidential statement said: “The Acting Iranian Foreign Minister and his accompanying delegation extended thanks and appreciation to the President for his participation in the condolence ceremony for the death of the Iranian President and his companions in the tragic helicopter accident.”

 The President affirmed the sympathy of the Iraqi people and their support for the Islamic Republic of Iran in this difficult circumstance, praising the role of the late President Ibrahim Raisi in strengthening relations between the two countries, and expressing his wishes for the success of the upcoming presidential elections and the fulfillment of the aspirations of the Iranian people for progress and prosperity.

 The President pointed to the depth of bilateral relations between the two countries, and the necessity of joint action to strengthen them based on the historical and religious ties and commonalities between the two neighboring peoples, stressing the importance of cooperation in the fields of economy, trade, tourism and energy, in addition to coordination and consultation on issues of mutual interest.

 He touched on the security agreement between the two countries and its positive repercussions in consolidating border security and stability in the two countries in a way that serves the strengthening of common security, and Iraq’s keenness to establish balanced relations with neighboring countries and the world in accordance with its vision of enhancing opportunities for peace and stability in the region and in a way that serves national interests.

Developments in the situation in Palestine were also discussed, where the President stressed the need to work on an immediate ceasefire, protect civilians, and prevent the expansion of the war zone in the region, which will have dire consequences if it expands, noting Iraq’s support for the Palestinian people to achieve their full legitimate rights to self-determination and the establishment of its independent state on its national territory.

 For his part, Bagheri appreciated the President of the Republic’s interest in developing bilateral relations between the two countries, stressing the Islamic Republic’s keenness to expand the horizons of constructive cooperation with Iraq in various fields in order to achieve the aspirations of the two friendly peoples for progress and prosperity and to consolidate security and stability in the region./End
