Syria, ILO discuss ways to develop legislative environment regulating business sector
Geneva, SANA- Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Louai Imad al-Din al-Munajjid discussed Saturday with the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Gilbert F. Houngbo means to bolster joint cooperation to develop the legislative environment regulating the business sector.
The meeting came on the sidelines of The 112th session of the International Labour Conference which is currently being held in Geneva.
The talks dealt with legislative amendments that Syria is working on to keep pace with current developments represented in the labor and social insurance laws and other laws, with the two sides stressing the importance of benefiting from the organization’s technical expertise in many fields.
Al-Munajjid referred to Syria’s continuous efforts to enhance the tripartite social dialogue between the parties of production, the government, the worker and the employers, in accordance with international labor standards, in order to develop the legislative environment regulating the business sector and the labor market.
The meeting was attended by Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Office and other international organizations working in Geneva, Ambassador Haider Ali Ahmed.
In the same context, the minister discussed with ILO Regional Director for Arab States Ruba Jaradat the issue of Syrisn refugees in Lebanon and the efforts made by the Syrian government to return them to their homeland.
The 112th session of the International Labour Conference 2024 kicked off on June 3rd and will contonue until June 14th with the attendance of representatives of the three parties to the work, including governments, employers and workers from 180 countries around the world.
