Indonesia Formulates Multifaceted Strategy to Combat Transnational Crime

JAKARTA, May 23 (Bernama) -- Indonesia’s National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) is developing a comprehensive strategy to address the growing threat of organised transnational crime along the country’s borders.

A focus group discussion (FGD) led by Lemhannas was held recently, which brought together the republic’s key stakeholders from various relevant agencies, to discuss pressing issues in countering cross-border criminal activities and to develop recommendations.

Indonesia’s National Border Management Agency (BNPP) Assistant Deputy of Cross-Border Management, Budi Setyono, said the FGD produced recommendations aimed at strengthening the country’s capacity to tackle transnational crime, including measures to enhance frontline officers’ skills, bolster law enforcement capabilities.

Other recommendations include optimising information gathering techniques, improving information-sharing mechanisms, utilising advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence, and establishing standardised operating procedures in collaboration with neighbouring countries.

Budi emphasised the crucial need for inter-agency collaboration to effectively combat transnational crime.

“Streamlining regulations and adopting a holistic approach across sectors are paramount,” he said in a statement on Thursday.
