'ALLaM' Leads Generative AI Arabic Language Model, Al-Wagait Says

Boston, May 21, 2024, SPA -- The director of the National Information Center at the Saudi Data and AI Authority (SDAIA), Dr. Esam bin Abdullah Al-Wagait, stated that the Arabic language model (ALLaM) -- which SDAIA announced today during the IBM Think 2024 conference as being integrated into IBM's watsonx platform in its experimental phase -- is considered one of the best generative artificial-intelligence (AI) models in the Arabic language worldwide.
This generative AI platform serves the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and all Arabic speakers around the globe, he noted.
During the conference, in the presence of IBM chairman and CEO Arvind Krishna, Al-Wagait praised the unique technical capabilities provided by the watsonx platform in enabling large language models, simplifying machine learning processes, enhancing AI governance and compliance, and the flexibility of hybrid cloud deployment.
He also highlighted the integration of ALLaM for global use, which significantly strengthens SDAIA's position as a leading authority in the field of AI on a global scale.
"With the unwavering support of His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, Crown Prince, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of SDAIA, we at SDAIA are making every effort to maximize the benefits of AI technologies. Among the various AI products launched by SDAIA, the ALLaM model stands out as one of the most prominent generative AI language models focused on the Arabic language," Dr. Al-Wagait said.
It is well understood that large language models trained on vast, high-quality datasets are the foundation for the successful implementation of generative AI, he said.
"The ALLaM model has been trained on more than 500 billion Arabic linguistic units. We will continue to expand by adding more high-quality data and working to improve the accuracy of the models trained on it, reaffirming SDAIA's commitment to making ALLaM the best generative AI model in the Arabic language worldwide," Dr. Al-Wagait said.
Concluding his remarks, Dr. Al-Wagait invited participants of the IBM Think 2024 conference to join the third annual Global AI Summit (GAIN), organized by SDAIA, to be held in Riyadh from September 10 to 12.
He noted that leading policymakers, thought leaders, innovators, and major investors in the field of AI will discover new opportunities for forging effective partnerships to advance the AI revolution worldwide during their attendance at the summit.
