Malaysian NGOs Help the Less Fortunate in Southern Thailand
YALA (Thailand), April 9 (Bernama) -- Malaysian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) have delivered aid to the less fortunate in southern Thailand before the arrival of Syawal (Eid ul-Fitri).
Angkatan Belia Malaysia (ABIM) president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said Pattani is an area that needs help, after his team’s visit to break fast and donate Raya shirts a few days ago.
"In addition to ABIM, the Global Peace Mission (GPM Malaysia) and the National Islamic Students Association (PKPIM) also took part in the mission.
"We are concerned about them in Pattani and we carry out activities not only limited to breaking fast during Ramadan, but we want to make it a regular programme throughout the year," he said here Tuesday.
Fahmi said at the previous fast-breaking ceremony, a total of 4,500 people from the community in Pattani, including 1,500 orphans were celebrated.
According to the Human Resource Education and Development Foundation (FEHRD), more than 20,000 orphans are recorded in the three troubled provinces of southern Thailand of Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat.
