Indonesia, Malaysia Condemn Israeli Attack On Iranian Diplomatic Premises In Damascus

JAKARTA/PUTRAJAYA, April 2 (Bernama) -- Indonesia has strongly condemned Israel’s assault on Iranian diplomatic premises and facilities in the Syrian capital, Damascus.

"This attack is a direct violation of international law and the United Nations Charter," stated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its official X account on Tuesday.

The ministry further warned that such actions could exacerbate tensions in the region.

"It is yet another dangerous action by Israel that will further escalate the conflict in the region and diminish the prospect of a lasting peace," the ministry added.

On the same note, Malaysia also condemned the targeting of the Iranian consulate building which has led to several deaths and injured many others, according to a statement by the Foreign Ministry, Tuesday.

The ministry, widely known as Wisma Putra, said Malaysia expressed its deepest condolences and sympathies to the victims and their families and extended prayers for the speedy recovery of the injured.

"The deliberate targeting of diplomatic premises represents a blatant breach of international norms and diplomatic protocols.

“Malaysia calls upon all parties involved to adhere to international law and recognise diplomatic premises as inviolable spaces,” said the statement.

Wisma Putra stressed that “this incident underscores the pressing need for dialogue and de-escalation in the region.”

Malaysia, the ministry said, “emphasises the importance of conducting a thorough investigation into this attack and urges all parties to exercise restraint to prevent further escalation of tensions.”

Israeli warplanes carried out an airstrike targeting the consular section adjacent to the main embassy building, resulting in the deaths of seven military advisers on Monday, according to reports from the Iranian news agency IRNA, citing the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

Iranian Ambassador to Syria, Hossein Akbari, who was present in his office at the embassy during the attack, confirmed that Israeli F-35 warplanes from the occupied Golan Heights launched six missiles at the building.
