Illegally-imported elephant pants seized

BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) – The police confiscated about 30,000 elephant-patterned pants illegally imported from China at a warehouse in Bangkok.

Police officers from the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) searched a warehouse in the Bang Khun Thian area, discovering a stash of counterfeit elephant pants, evading import taxes and causing about exceeding 6 million baht in damage.

Mr. Sukhum (surname withheld) overseeing the merchandise at the location could not provide any document for tax payments to the police.

Elephant-patterned pants currently in high demand among foreign tourists visiting Thailand are copyrighted. A crackdown on an influx of cheaper counterfeit elephant pants from China is to safeguard Thai creativity and interests. -819 (TNA)
